Spring 2024 Newsletter
The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and we’re spreading inclusive arts integration across Los Angeles! Here’s what we’ve been up to lately:
Everyday Arts in Classrooms!
This year we’ve been facilitating arts integration lessons in elementary schools across the county, including Los Angeles Unified School District, Pasadena Unified School District, and Torrance Unified School District. Students have had a blast creating their own beanbags (which they then use to learn math!), adding sound effects to stories using found musical instruments, building giant towers using items from the recycling bin (STEM challenge!), tracing their names in the air with ribbon wands, and creating puppets to tell stories!
Students work together to create letters and words out of aluminum foil!
Professional Learning!
Our newest course, “Student Engagement Through Asset-Based Learning,” was recently offered to educators at South Whittier School District and the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena. Attendees learned our Guiding Principles for working with students with disabilities by participating in dynamic arts activities and then applying the principles to their own practice by creating brand new lesson plans. The program is catered to teaching artists and arts specialists, and we hope to offer it again in 2024-2025!
Teaching Artists at the Armory Center for the Arts work on collaborative problem solving!
$1 Million for a Better LA!
We’re excited to share that our partners at LA2050 have launched voting in the 11th annual LA2050 Grants Challenge.
Each year, LA2050 gives $1 million to nonprofits and other social impact organizations making LA better. But, it’s up to Angelenos to determine what issue areas will receive funding! Voting is online through May 8th, open to all ages and available in 12 languages.
We encourage you to vote now!
Thanks for all of your support!
