Grants from NEA and CAC

Everyday Arts is pleased to announce it has been selected to receive a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) “Grants for Arts Projects” award, as well as a California Arts Council (CAC) “Impact Project” award. In tandem, these grants will support the Everyday Arts Neighborhood Project, a Professional Development initiative for teachers and families of special education students in Los Angeles Unified School District.

The Everyday Arts Neighborhood Project aims to bring culturally responsive arts opportunities to students with special needs in Los Angeles. “COVID-19 has hit the special education population particularly hard, for myriad reasons, including: physical needs that cannot be met through remote learning; medical conditions that impact mask-wearing and the ability to social distance; the high costs of support services; and many more,” said Everyday Arts Executive Director Noemy Hernandez. “Through a series of hands-on workshops in three high-needs areas, we will facilitate artmarking opportunities for special education students, as well as provide educators and families with the tools needed to implement visual and performing arts instruction that supports social-emotional growth for years to come. We are thrilled that the National Endowment for the Arts and California Arts Council are supporting this urgent and vital project, and look forward to continued partnerships.”

Everyday Arts was featured as part of a larger announcement from the California Arts Council, with grant awards for its Cycle B programming totaling more than $41 million across more than 900 grants supporting nonprofit organizations and units of government throughout the state. The National Endowment for the Arts awarded 1,251 Grants for Arts Projects totaling nearly $28.8 million as part of its first round of fiscal year 2023 grants.
